It all started with an unexpected detour. It wasn’t part of the plan—just a work visit, a one-off collaboration in the Cerna Valley. But this place stayed with us.
We kept coming back, season after season. The forests, the stillness, and the Roman ruins whispering their stories—these won us over. That’s when the idea began to take shape: What if we built a place here that would honor everything beautiful about Herculane?
That’s how Vivari was born. A dream of comfort, tranquility, and aesthetics—patiently transformed into a boutique guesthouse. A refuge for those who seek not just a “place to stay,” but an unforgettable experience.

When we open this autumn, you’ll see it was worth the wait. Vivari isn’t just a guesthouse—it’s a place built with intention, with patience, and with love. It’s a family project started from scratch by Erica and Tiberiu, a Romanian couple who chose to invest at home, not abroad.

It’s hard to be Romanian and not have heard of Băile Herculane. For our parents and grandparents, it was one of the most sought-after vacation destinations.
During the communist era, the resort was a spa jewel with a national reputation: crowded trains, daily treatments, elegant hotels for that time, and the famous thermal waters that were said to “make you well.”
But the glory days didn’t last. The historic buildings fell into disrepair, tourists went elsewhere, and for many years, Herculane became just a dusty memory.
We believe it’s time for a new chapter. One where the natural beauty, the springs, and the architectural heritage are rediscovered with care, not in haste. Vivari is part of this new beginning: a boutique guesthouse built with respect for history and a modern vision for hospitality.
